Sporting Activities
Junior Sailing has been a very busy sport for the junior members of the club under the guidance of Mr. Robert Phillips. This activity is run on Saturdays from 1300 hours to 1500 hours and have very well established junior sailors within the club
All round it is rewarding to see how the sporting activities within the club has grown with enthusiasm and stiff competitions within the various sports.
Early mornings and late afternoons any day of the week you see paddlers leaving the club for training or competing in national competitions. The club is proud that the noteriety of the members that represent Fiji and the club internationally have come back home successful in their endeavors to achieve the best in the world.
B’Class Sailing have their competitions on Sundays and note the increase and enthusiasm in members which is run under their President, Nick Rollings. Don’t be fooled by their friendly banter as these sailors are very serious and are very competitive in this sport. If you are interested in sailing and don’t have a sailing vessel they are accommodating especially if you are novice, new in the country or an experience sailor without the use of a sailing vessel.
Hobie Cat Sailing have seen members represent the club and country nationally and internationally under the guidance of veteran Graham Southwick. As a regular weekender to “Sand Bank” I regular witness these competitiors within the Laucala Bay basin skilfully menouver their vessels to “Sand Bank”, outside the reef and back.
The World Hobie Cat Sailing competitions will be held in 2007, either in Suva or Pacific Harbour and with international and national experience under their belt, the Fiji Hobie Cat teams are to look out for competitively.
